How Many Amps Can You Draw Off Of Each Receptacle In The Miller Bluestar 2e

  1. Miller Blue Star 2E ac/dc question..

Name: miller blue star in truck.jpg Views: 756 Size: 68.6 KBHi Folks,
Picked up a Miller Blue Star 2E off Craigs the other twenty-four hours (ser. # JK627679 ) It pretty much was a last 2nd fly-past buy.. for all I knew the engine was seized and the guts stripped out. It was dark and I had no tools so it was either grab it at present or lose information technology to who ever was adjacent in line to see it potentially.. so I grabbed information technology. Got it habitation and got a closer look at it today, pulled and cleaned the starter, replaced new fuel line, filter and put a fuel shut off valve on it, Changed the oil, fresh gas and pulled the batter out of my truck and mounted information technology on the welder to give information technology a go. To my pleasant surprise the welder started correct upward and runs well, nice blue arc at the spark plug, no hunting or back firing, idles in "power" mode, switch to "weld" and she runs higher rpm (haven't tested with tach withal) Gets 130 volts out of the receptacles in "power" fashion.

I put a volt meter beyond the electrode and work lugs in "weld" way and noticed I'm only getting 57 volts a.c. which stayed the same while switching through various amp ranges. (Have not put a amp meter or leads on the weld lugs yet)
Is this normal voltage output does anyone know? before I bolt on some wire leads and strike an arc ? If non any thoughts on where to get-go the diagnosis get-go etc?
Thanks for whatsoever help in advance.

Skilful to hear the unit of measurement runs and probably welds.

If you don't already have it, you lot tin can download the manual for information technology here: https://www.millerwelds.com/files/ow.../O424F_MIL.pdf

Your weld output OCV (Open Circuit Voltage) is a trivial low. Should be +/-80V and your low reading could simply be low engine RPM in WELD manner or y'all didn't have the Fine Voltage control ready to 100%. OCV will be the aforementioned in all Coarse Range settings.

Cheers Duane, I remember making sure to set the fine aligning to 100 (or all the way right?) I haven't taken the side panels off all the same... would scotch brightening the rings and brushes help with the depression voltage?

Also would you happen to know of a cheap source for a Blue Star 2E control panel template? I encounter them listed on Ebay for $70ish but was hoping there are cheaper means to become?
    Cheers for your help!

  4. Re: Miller Blue Star 2E ac/dc question..

It wouldn't hurt to pull off a side panel and blow out the unit. There may be a mouse nest or something in there.
You tin lightly clean the rings and inspect the brushes at the same time. Make sure all the brushes are gratuitous and not stuck.

Cheers Jason, I'll do that with the side panel and rings soon. I brought the welder dwelling house the solar day afterwards the snow tempest and didn't take the space to pull information technology in the shop so I was concentrating on the basic.. checking to see the motor spun, curb, fuel lines, bombardment etc. I call up Duane is dead on near the running rpm.. I'll put a tach on it kickoff thing but it sure sounds like it runs too slow and mayhap the reason my ocv is out of spec.
Thanks all for sharing your thoughts/input

  6. Re: Miller Blueish Star 2E air-conditioning/dc question..

I've been searching the spider web for a decent and clear pic of the face of a Miller Blue Star 2E without whatsoever success.
Does anyone have (or tin can take a pic and post information technology) a motion picture of the control panel that clearly shows the graphics that they could share? I'm considering creating a vinyl laminate decal? for mine. I'm too because altering the graphics to create a space for a nuance mounted LED engine tachometer.. any thoughts on what other LED sensors might be useful to have on this type of welder? I come across lots of cheap LED volt/amp/tach etc sensors on ebay that might add a piddling bling to the old gal.

Thanks Pipeliner, I saw that plate.. as well on Ebay, it looks nice but too pricey because what I paid for the welder. Also the pic is out of focus so not usable for my purpose.

Pipeliner, It'south a black plate with white graphics. I wonder if it's possible to create my own graphics (not free paw) with today's graphics software and some re-create / paste / super-impose something that looks professional.

Daune what would be a few digital led gauges you lot would like to run across on the dash of one of these welders to indicate it's running right if you were so inclined to add together them on? I'thousand guessing rpm's would be one. would ocv be another ? Amps I'm thinking wouldn't exist much aid because you lot can't weld with a shield over your eyes and at the same time wait back at your dashboard for readings no?

  12. Re: Miller Blue Star 2E ac/dc question..

Personally, I wouldn't carp with any gauges or tach at all. I'd just do a periodic check of RPM/OCV if I had any reason to question them and permit the arc/puddle tell me the rest.

My blue star 2e has a black face plate. I can have a movie tomorrow. That tin get y'all going for now. In the long run, you might every bit well get a new face plate. While your at it, remove your metallic covers, clean them up and re Finnish them with fresh paint. You tin can also purchase a reproduction kit for these welders.

Here equally you can encounter is the weathered nuance console on my Bluish Star 2E. Graphics are almost completely gone.
Has anyone ever tried a customized exterior magnet sign, the type that goes on a truck door etc every bit a replacement for a welder control panel? Information technology looks like I could society one for less than $20 through diverse online sign makers.. Y'all just upload a motion-picture show of what you lot desire printed on the magnet and they do the remainder.. the key would exist dimensions between knob holes etc I guess.

Does anyone know where to get the single "square" 120v receptacle, other than Miller? I have never seen them available anywhere else and they are similar golden from Miller.
